10 QUESTIONS TO SHARAM JEY

6 April, 2012

sharam

Hi Guys, this time we pop up to you something different from usual. Neither a new EP nor any Mixtape, but an interview with a german worldwide famous dj who went to play for the first time here in Italy some days ago. Who are we talking about? Simply said, we are talking about Mr.SHARAM JEY, directly from his Kink kong Records. He was the main guest at last our friend’s WOW great party in Reggio Emilia (keep in touch with them for their next WOW XXL with Erol Alkan). We went there to meet him and this is what came out: enjoy!

-Hi Sharam, this is the first time that you are here in Italy..how does it feel, what do you expect from tonight?

Well, what you have to expect? I think always the same: I always love to play in parties and my sets are always 100% energy. I’ve done it for many years and, you know, it’s all about feeling the vibe, feeling the energy from the dancefloor. I’ve a set list, but it’s not a tracklist: I always try look people what they like, to guess the crowd’s mood and give them what they need to have fun and have a big party. It’ must be the mix of 2 ways: my music must have a direction but it’s also important to feel the crowd. The right mix of these two ingredients make everyone have fun on the party.

-Obviously except from Italy and Germany, what is the country in which do you like to play most?

I’m so happy that I had this opportunity to play around the world and in a lot of beautiful countries, so I can say that I love to play everywhere people enjoy my music. Besides, I d’like to play in Asia because I’m a little bit fan of Asian culture and food; but there are so many nice clubs round the world that it’s difficult for me to choose one in particoular: everywhere is the same if there is a good vibe.

-A little step before: let’s talk about your origins. Which has been your influences?

I’ve starded at a very young age: I’ve grown up in the middle of ’80′s so all the music of that time influenced me: synth pop, electronic music up to rock music had a great importance in my background. Hip hop also in followink years took a great influence in my productions. I always try to keep all these inlfuences (synth, electronic, hip hop, rock) in my tracks: that’s the mix I love and if you listen to my albums you ‘ll definitely find out those clues.

-Which has been the turning point that have let you decide to start producing and djing?

At that time my dream was to become the singer of a rock band, but when this moment came I bagan to discover electronic music. My first techno party had been an upsetting experience: it was something like ’88 or ’89, and it was the first time I had an experience of that kind. It was something totally new with the music so loud and with all these people dancing. It took time,  but at the beginning of ’90, and after my second techno party, I understood that this was what i wanted to do, so i gave up my band and my dreams as a singer to start producing this electro house music.

-Think about me as if I came from Mars: describe your music and your attitude in producing it.

I’ll tell you that you definitely have to listen to my albums to understand exactly what I do. What I do is 100% full of passion cause I love music so much. It’s all about house music and electronic music. It’s 100% full of energy: the perfect night for me is when I satisfy the crowd. If I know i made them a really good night I’m happy, more than happy, cause without the crowd i wan’t be there: I’ll stay at home and play form myself.

-Better producing or playing live?

They are two different things and I love both. I could imagine in a few years that I would stay at home in my studio and just producing, but at this moment the two things are at the same level and works very good jointly because i love producing and also be in clubs. I d’like to stay on stage and have fun as long as possible. I mean, if you see Rolling stones after sixties they are still live on stage. Besides there are some djs near fifties that are still on stage and having a lot of fun. I think it’s all about fun: until you have fun you can go on doing what you like beside the age. So about me, I’ll decide step by step: untill I’ll have fun and keep energy from the crowd I’ll keep on both producing and djing.

-What do you think about the italian scene?

As I said it’s the first time I play in Italy and I don’t know much about his club scene. Absolutely there are a lot of great italian dancy djs worldwide famous, but I don’t know much of the scene by the clubs: I just heard italian djs are a kind of “loco” like me.

-Next step: what have we to expetct from you in this 2012

A lot! I’m working on my third album, and at the same time I’m working on two other different projects as well, but these are going to be a kind of band projects. By the wat, mostly I’m looking forward for the new album, but I’m still not 100% sure of what direction I’ll chose. I always loved to have a lot of projects: some electro projects, some techo progects, house projects, and actually I have something like 30 tracks to finish. I need time to understand wich style I want to give to my new album: when i will finish those tracks, than I will know wich will be the right direction for the new album. What I can say still now is that it will be different form the previus one: “In My Blood” was a sort of song-orientated album with a lot featurings with different artist and singers; I think that the next one will be with less vocals, but we will see.

-A name for this 2012

I don’t konw, there are so many good djs and so many generes: if I would know that, than I would be David Copperfild! Jokes aside it’s difficult to decide a name cause there is so much good music all around. If i have to say, I would say Wasabi: we issued the first ep of those german guys on our King Kong Records and in this 2012 we will issue their second ep.

-Little joke: tell me the thing you like most of Italy and the one you don’t like at all

wow, of course the food! You know, 10 years ago cooking become my second biggest hobby:i love to cook pasta and so food is obviously the thing i loke most.
conversely it’s hard to find something i don’t like at all of Italy: maybe if Germany will play against Italy in next European Football Championship…
